On Friday I had chance to spend sometime with CIRP in the hall where they were making a big den. I learned all about some of the things they have been thinking about this half term. The are thinking about the boy in the striped pyjamas. The children were thinking of a happier ending for the story and came up with the idea of escaping.
So one chilly Monday morning we stretched our imagination muscles and pretended that we followed Bruno and Shmul out of the camp to escape into the night. We were going to have to be careful to not be noticed by soldiers, so we needed to make somewhere to hide during the day.
I was so impressed with the amazing collaboration and perseverance that I saw. It seemed like everyone had a little role or job within the group, some collected resources, some came up with solutions to problems.
We then hid in the den and listened to a little more of our story. Our group would hide in the den during the daytime and at night would move further away from the camp. We heard that someone was helping people to escape and was giving them equipment that they might find useful, but we could only take one item each. It was great to hear everyone joining in with ideas about what to take. We took lots of things that would be useful and Scott took some chocolate for himself. Can you remember all the things we said the comic would be useful for?
It was really cold this morning so we went to warm up with hot pop and pancakes and melted marshmallows around the fire.
